Early Christianity: Lindisfarne Gospels

Early Christianity: Lindisfarne Gospels

Nine images highlight the delicate golden imagery from the Lindisfarne Gospels, an illuminated Latin manuscript of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  The manuscript dates to the late 7th/early 8th century and is the first translation of the Gospels into the English language.

Produced in Lindisfarne in Northumbria, it is generally regarded as the finest example of the United Kingdom's unique style of religious art, a style that combined Anglo-Saxon and Celtic themes and is held in the collections of the British Library.   Includes a detailed storycard with historical information describing the images and a matching gift box.

Produced in collaboration with the British Library.
