The Japanese wood-block artist Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎) 1760-1849, known as Hokusai inspired Degas, Monet, van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and even Debussy. He is perhaps best known in the west for his Iconic picture of a 'great' (tsunami) wave, the focus of the dramatic storycard insert that describes each of the nine Hokusai images on this cube in English and Japanese. He was one of the most prominent 'ukiyo-e' painter and woodblock artist of the Edo period.
