American Paintings


Nine paintings by nine American painters of American subjects illustrate this colourful cube.  

The works include Impressionists such as Cassatt, Hassam and Robinson as well as Joshua Johnson, amongst the earliest known African American professional artists, with a painting dated 1806, finally leading to a piece by Realist Edward Hopper from 1939. Included are also examples of paintings from the Hudson River and Ashcan Schools. Each painting is shown in full and described on the illustrated storycard.
