Alaskan Masks - Native American Art

Alaskan Masks - Native American Art

Enjoy a collection of striking traditional and modern Native Alaskan masks made for use in dances and ceremonials. The masks represent humans, animals or spirits even combinations of all three. Ceremonies often honor the spirits and encourage future prosperity.

Included are examples from a number of different native Alaskan tribes including the Yup'ik, Aleut, Athabascan, Alutiiq and Inupiat.  Groups have their own traditions, within which are regional styles and conventions for representing important elements.

The origins of each mask are explained on the illustrated storycard. Includes matching gift box. Produced in collaboration with the Anchorage Museum.  Check out more titles related to native american cultures!
